If you need an easy way to create disk images, it's hard to imagine an option that's easier than PowerISO. This simple program makes it a breeze to create disk images in several different formats, open existing images, and burn disk images to CDs and DVDs.

PowerISO has a straightforward interface that's easy to navigate. A set of clearly marked buttons across the top make the program's main features easily accessible. It took us just a few seconds to navigate to a handful of files we wanted to include and then save them as an ISO file, though the program also gave us the option of DAA and BIN files. PowerISO also has options for mounting and compressing existing disk images, as well as burning disk images to disks. A built-in Help file is brief but well-written. It is primarily used for creating pages in the language of Urdu, using the Nasta`līq (نستعلبق) ('hanging' calligraphic) style of Arabic script. As a de facto standard Urdu publishing tool, InPage is widely used on PCs where the user wishes to create their documents in Urdu, using the authentic style of Nastaliq with a vast ligature library (more than 20,000), while keeping the display of characters on screen WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get). Overall, this makes the on-screen and printed results more 'faithful' to hand-written calligraphy than all or most other Urdusoftware on the market. This is achieved while keeping the operation easy, akin to that of earlier versions of standard English Desktop Publishing packages such as QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign.
Before being used within InPage, the Noori style of Nastaliq, which was first created as a digital typeface (font) in 1981 through the collaboration of Mirza Ahmad Jamil TI (as calligrapher) and Monotype Imaging (formerly Monotype Corp.), suffered from two problems in the 1990s: a) its non-availability on standard platforms such as Windows or Mac, and b) the non-WYSIWYG nature of text entry, whereby the document had to be created by commands in Monotype's proprietary page description language.
In 1994, an Indian software development team - Concept Software Pvt Ltd, led by Rarendra Singh & Vijay Gupta, with the collaboration of a UK company called Multilingual Solutions  led by Kamran Rouhi, developed InPage Urdu for Pakistan's newspaper industry, who up until that time had been using large teams of calligraphers to hand-write last minute corrections to text created under Monotype's proprietary system. The Noori Nastaliq typeface was licensed for InPage from Monotype & augmented for use as the main Urdu font in this software, along with 40 other non-Nastaliq fonts which were created by Syed Manzar Hasan from Axis Softmedia Pvt Ltd.
InPage is reported to be in use on millions of PCs in Pakistan & India (mainly illegal pirated version). It has also been widely marketed & sold legally in the UK and India since 1994, and is utilized in the majority of UK schools & local authorities where Urdu is a main language of pupils & constituents.InPage launched its latest Version 3 at ITCN exhibition Asia in Karachi, Pakistan, held between 11–13 August 2008. It is now Unicode based, supports more Languages, and Faiz Lahori Nastaliq font with Kasheeda has been added to it along with compatibility with OpenType Unicode fonts. In addition to Arabic, Saraiki, Urdu, Persian & Pashto, other languages of the region, such as Sindhi and Hazaragi can be handled in InPage.

While our numbers may be off, there's no doubt that millions of people use Skype for voice and video calls, instant messaging, and file-sharing. PortableApps creates portable freeware by modifying open-source programs to store program data locally and run on a Windows machine without modifying the registry or file structure. We looked at their Skype Portable release. You can store Skype Portable on a USB stick or other device and run it on any Windows PC with Internet access and a microphone, video camera, or other means of communicating via the Skype network.

For a clean installation of Skype Portable, we chose a PC that lacked Skype. We opted to create an entirely new account instead of importing an existing account to verify that the portable application covered every step. 

The process of creating a free Skype account is the same with Skype Portable as with the regular Skype app. Current Skype users can easily associate existing accounts with Skype Portable during the installation and setup process. Skype is designed to be as bumble-proof as possible, and all its rough edges were worn away long ago. In no time, we heard the familiar echo tone signaling that Skype's setup wizard had finished its job. Seconds later, we were placing phone calls, and with very good audio quality, too. Having verified that the Skype part of Skype Portable worked properly, we tried the portable part, copying the program's folder to a USB drive. We transferred the drive to another computer that lacked Skype, plugged it in, and ran Skype Portable on it: success.

It's easy enough to access your Skype account from any PC that already has Skype. With Skype Portable, though, you can access not only your own account but your own program, settings, and data.

Flash QURAN Software

"Quranflash" had started in February 2007 as a simple microsite displaying the Holy Quran (Medina layout), in a very interactive way. The project had taken approximately 2 months of work to be accomplished by a few volunteers. The idea behind Quranflash came from a project developed and managed by the same members, Flash-eBook.com. Flash-eBook is an online service which digitizes books and displays them in a very attractive and easily interactive way, using flash technology. Quranflash was initially a demo for large scale applications using Flash-eBook.

However, Quranflash had opened people's hearts and became a popular method of reading Quran, receiving unexpected numbers of over 10 thousand visitors daily. Therefore a decision was made to renovate the website design-wise as well as function-wise, especially incorporating the option of selecting among different Quran books to read. It is worth noting here to our non-Muslim visitors that there is only one version of the Quran, but the different books here represent different styles of writing to enhance the reading, understanding, and/or memorization process. This renovation has taken approximately 4 months, and through Allah's will, was completed by the end of August 2007.

Among the main features that have been added to the website are the following:

• Increasing the page sizes to make reading easier
• Rescanning pages of the Quran more precisely to include side information such as page and chapter numbering, as well as chapter names
• Ability to magnify an area of the page using the magnifying glass

The work seen throughout this website has been accomplished by individual efforts, and not through any kind of organization or committee.
